Survival
As the Holocaust unfolded in the Independent State of Croatia, the struggle for survival proved daunting and fraught with challenges. Jewish individuals faced a harrowing choice: some sought refuge in the shadows and went into hiding, depending on the assistance of gentiles, despite the ever-looming threat of betrayal. Others managed to escape to remote areas and join the partisan forces. The adoption of false identities was a no less hazardous strategy, as individuals endeavored to seamlessly merge into the general population.
